PCMiler Streets Guided Tour
The Tour on the following pages will
enable you to fully experience the functionality, speed,
ease, and accuracy of PC*MILER. Please take a little time to
become comfortable with PC*MILER by following the
instructions, step by step. By taking this guided tour, you
will become familiar with the product’s major features and
capabilities far more quickly than by simply reading the
User’s Guide.
If an additional explanation is required during
this tutorial, use the extensive PC*MILER on-line Help by selecting
Contents from the Help menu.
Guided Tour: First Run a
PCMILER Route
To begin the Tour, double-click on the PC*MILER
icon on your desktop to open the program.
To generate a route, your cursor should be in the
Route 1 entry window, in the City field. (If you don’t see this
window, select Route 1 in the Windows menu.)

Enter the trip origin as a city/state
combination by typing “sioux city, ia”, and press <Enter>. If a
pick list pops up, choose the first ZIP code on the list. You
have entered “51101 Sioux City, IA, Woodbury”.

We will now enter a local address as the
first stop. Type the city/state combination as “des moines, ia”,
but do not press <Enter> yet!

Click the Address Assist button. In the
Address Assist window, type “ia” and click Next or press
<Enter>.

In the next screen type “des”, click on “Des
Moines, Polk” in the list of possible matches, then click Next.

Type “500”, press the <Tab> key, and type “gra”.

Click on “Grand Avenue” in the list of
matches and click Next.

As you can see, an exact match wasn’t found
in the database, so PC*MILER provides a list of nearby streets,
cross-streets, and similar addresses in “nearby cities”:

Scroll down the list and highlight “500 Grand
Avenue West Des Moines, IA” and click Finished.

“50265 West Des Moines, IA, Polk 500 Grand
Avenue” is now listed as the second stop in the route entry
window.

Continuing to enter stops on this trip, type
“52585” in the route window City field and press <Enter> to
enter this ZIP code (Richland, IA) as the third stop.

Use the Spelling Helper to enter a third stop
by typing “ma,ia” and press <Enter>. Once the pick list appears,
highlight “52057 Manchester, IA, Delaware” (scroll down the list
if necessary) and click OK.

Use the ZIP Code Helper to enter the final
destination. Type 505 and press <Enter>. Once the pick list
appears, highlight “50514 Armstrong, IA, Emmet” and click OK.

Click the Run button or the <F10> key to
generate your route. PC*MILER|Streets will calculate the mileage
for each leg of the trip, as well as cumulative miles, cost
estimates, and time estimates.
