Guided Tour: Generate a Route in Hub Mode

PCMILER’S hub routing feature allows you to generate routes and mileages from one origin to unlimited destinations. Let’s rerun Route 1 in Hub mode with the origin (Sioux City, IA) as the hub:

1. Click on the Route 1 window to select it.

2. In the City or Address tab, click on the Options button.

3. Click on the checkbox for Hub Routing.

4. Click OK. The new route will automatically run.

The hub version is quite different from your previous route. Each leg of the hub route starts at Sioux City and ends at a different destination.
  

Guided Tour: Truck Stop Routing

PCMILER gives you the ability to view and add truck stops along your route.

1. Highlight Des Moines on the stop list in the Route 1 window, then choose Insert Stop from the Edit menu.

2. Type “@t,ia” and press <Enter> to get a pick list of all truck stops whose names begin with “T” in the state of Iowa. Highlight “@Truck Haven Sioux Cy, IA” and click OK. This truck stop is now Dest 1 on your route.

3. With Truck Haven highlighted on the stop list, click the Zoom to Stop button on the tool bar to zoom to this truck stop on the map.
   

4. Return to the Route 1 window and click on the Run button to generate your new route.
     

Guided Tour: Customize Place Names

PCMILER allows you to customize place names to match the names of your facilities and\or customer locations. Let’s add a custom place to the stop list for Route 1:

1. Select Manage Custom Places… from the Tools menu to access the Custom Place Manager.

2. To enter a custom place, place your cursor in the Custom Name field and type “HQ” (for Headquarters).

3. Type “jacksonville, fl” in the Location field and click Add. (A ZIP code or latitude\longitude point would also be accepted in the Location field.)

4. If a pick list opens, highlight one of the ZIP codes on the list and click OK. (The Tools menu > Multiple Name Instances setting determines if a pick list will appear.) “HQ” will be added to the list of custom places.

5. Click OK to close the Custom Place Manager and save your custom place to the PCMILER database.

6. Now, in the Route 1 window, click under the last stop, type “hq”, and press <Enter> to add it as a stop. It will appear on the list with an asterisk to show that it’s a custom place.

7. To calculate the new route, click Run.
